Something we win, something we lose.(PART1)
Today is the Day!! Today is the Day!! I have to do this
today, no more delays, this fire, I can’t behold it anymore. Running into the
woods, I was continuously reminding myself about the holy time, which I dream
every night. A dream that brings me the happiness, a happiness that is so
serene, so pious that within the dream I can savor the sweetness of a fruit
that only a few have tasted. My journey, my past, my present and all the
hardships that I have faced is going to reap this fruit for me; my love is
finally going to be mine.
Suddenly I hit the reality as I stumbled upon a log,
thrashed into the ground I fall. I wasn’t worried about the bruise that the log
has given me but the thump, it shan’t awake the woodcutters. I don’t know who
might tell the agency, I won’t let my efforts go down the drain. Got on my feet
as quietly as possible, there was no one around, damn did I take a sigh of
relief, this might have fallen last night out of the storm.
A few miles more and I stopped as this is the spot where I
was about to wait. By the market she said. Let people come out she said, this
can be the only disguise she said. I waited out long, thinking to myself about the
future lay ahead, I sat beside the thick sheesham tree. Everything is going to change;
we’ll be free after this. No more whips and strands; enough fortune to start a
peaceful, happy and most importantly free life.
I’m a graduate, I thought to myself, I’ll build a primary
school, teach the children of my prosperous and free country and make my living
as well. Yeah, this is good, great actually, I’ll start reading again. It’s been so long since I read my last Sydney
Sheldon. I won’t abandon my books again, I promised to myself.
My mobile phone’s ring brought me back to the senses. “ZUBEEN calling”, the screen flashed, my face lit up with that flash. She is the reason for my living. With a blushing smile, I picked up the phone. ”hello, where are you? I just woke up and you were not there. Where have you been? I have been calling you since then..”, she said. Yes, she does that, a torrent of questions and never let me answer even one of them, “Today is the Day, meethi”, I answered. A haunting silence prevails. Before I could say anything else, our conversation was interrupted by a loud speaker’s voice, “Faraz, put your hands up, where I can see them”,I could just cut the line and I turned and my face turned pale…..
